Have you heard of “fast furniture”?

What is it?

Similar to fast fashion, fast furniture is the concept of frequently repurchasing products that are low cost and short-lasting.

What’s the problem?

Environment

A high repurchase rate requires more natural resources, which are often not sourced responsibly.

Ethical

The furniture parts are made overseas, where companies can pay lower wages.

What to do?

I want to buy furniture and I don’t want to support this, but I can’t afford expensive furniture. What do I do?
Here in Canada, there are many small businesses that sell beautiful second-hand furniture. Some of them also do restoration to make sure everything is as new.
