The 7 Generations Teaching

June is National Indigenous History Month, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to talk about the 7 Generations Teaching.

The 7 Generations Teaching is found within many Indigenous cultures, including the nations of the Haudenosaunee (Hodinohso:ni).

It teaches that decisions made today should promote a sustainable world for seven generations into the future.

It's based on ancient Haudenosaunee philosophy, principle and practice, believed to be first recorded in The Great Law of Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

This sustainable way of living encompasses decisions towards the environment, cultural aspects and relationships, strengthening the community for now as well as for those who will inherit the world.

Food for thought:

Do you make decisions considering the well being of those who are yet to be born?
